What better way to explore the primary colors than to learn about Piet Mondrian. This artist began his early painting career by creating landscapes, but eventually transformed his art to explore the more basic elements of art. His works consisted of using the primary colors and specifically vertical and horizontal lines. After listening to Greg Percy's "Mondrian Song," the students set about to create our own Mondrian Masterpieces. We first used rulers to draw horizontal and vertical lines. Next we outlined them with black wax crayon. Last, we painted them with tempera paint in the primary colors. Nice work, Grade 1!
